NEW BRUNSWICK, NJ—A young man identified by friends as Mario Lombardo was shot in the head Tuesday evening at some point before 7:00pm.  The incident occurred on the block of Somerset Street between James and Alexander Streets, according to neighbors.

Local police refused to comment on the exact location, victim’s identity, and status of the investigation.  It is the first gun crime to be publicly reported this year.

At last night’s City Council meeting, Captain JT Miller, a spokesman for the New Brunswick Police would not confirm whether or not Lombardo was still alive.

There has also not been an official statement from the Middlesex County Prosecutor’s Office, who is likely investigating the shooting.

We will keep you posted on this tragic incident as more details become available.
