NEW BRUNSWICK, NJ—The Middlesex County Office of Health Services has issued a rabies alert after discovering a rabid bat in the city’s Sixth Ward.

The bat was found in a basement near the intersection of College Avenue and Lafayette Street, near the west side of Buccleuch Park and the Raritan River, according to a report on NJ.com.

MyCentralJersey.com first reported the alert at 5:25pm yesterday.

But the city government has yet to use any of its media outlets, including the city website, Twitter account, Facebook page, or the Nixle service operated by the police department to make residents aware of the alert.

The report said this was the seventh rabid animal found in Middlesex County this year, and the first in New Brunswick.
