NEW BRUNSWICK, NJ—The city government and board of education established a fund to collect donations for the families of two young boys who died in the Raritan River Sunday night.
Checks can be made to “New Brunswick Board of Education in care of Periera-Rodas & Nicholas Memorial Fund” and sent to the Board of Education’s office at 268 Baldwin Street.
A letter from the city’s Mayor James Cahill and School Superintendent Richard Kaplan said the funds will be “distributed to both families to offset their expenses at this time.”

After a witness came forward and said she saw the boys playing at the banks of the river that same night, police ruled the cases accidental drownings.
Police units were first notified of the missing boys at 1:16 am Monday morning, according to audio from police transmissions. Â New Brunswick police canvassed the neighborhood near Kossuth Park the following morning and the NJ State Police issued an alert at 1:09 pm on Monday.
The bodies of the two boys were found in the Raritan River later that day.
