NEW BRUNSWICK, NJ—City housing inspectors swarmed a condominium complex in response to a news report by News 12 New Jersey’s Walter Kane.

The housing inspectors are giving the condo association 60 days to make much-needed repairs before heavy fines kick in.

The original “Kane in Your Corner” segment aired on July 19 and detailed the continued failure on the part of the condominium’s board and management company to repair the dilapidated condominiums.

The Case DiLusso condos are a 12-building townhouse complex located just off Remsen Avenue on Fulton Street, Lawrence Street, and Fulton Court.

One of the buildings on Fulton Court is in such poor condition that Nestor Chacon said he has been unable to sell the townhouse because of the exterior appearance.  A real estate sign, with a “REDUCED PRICE” sign attached sits outside his unit.

A follow-up report by Kane said that six New Brunswick housing inspectors
“descended on the property” last Monday, eventually citing the twelve buildings for 430 housing code violations.

Violations included deteriorating siding, dilapidated staircases, rotting fences, mold, rusted out electrical components, and broken central air conditioning, according to the most recent segment.

“Now that we’re working with the association, they’ll get it done.  They have no choice,” said Russell Marchetta, a spokesman for Mayor James Cahill.

Kane said he still has not been able to reach any of the condominium association’s board members.
