NEW BRUNSWICK, NJ – The Asbury Park Press’ Capitol Quickies blog reported that Governor Christie visited the New Brunswick home of Frank Deiner, Jr. for a “conversation with taxpayers about ending payouts to retiring public employees for unused sick days.”

Deiner represented Middlesex County as a Freeholder in the 1960’s, a position where he regularly butted heads with the county’s boss, John Lynch.  He lives with his wife in the Edgebrook neighborhood of New Brunswick.

The park above Route 18 on the Rutgers campus was named Frank Deiner Sr. Park, the only monument to a deceased journalist in the state.  Deiner Jr. has been a longtime advocate for improving the park, which fell into disrepair in the 90’s.

Prior to 1993, the park had been home to an annual spring festival at Rutgers, Deinerfest.  The festival was renamed Rutgersfest in 1994 and cancelled permanently earlier this year.
