Johnson & Johnson Opens Global Services Center in Tampa

Company Wants to Tap Wide Availability of Talent in Area, Including Bilingual People

TAMPA, FL–In October, Johnson & Johnson (J&J) formally opened a new Global Services delivery center in Tampa, Florida, honoring its summer of 2015 initiative to establish a site in the state, according to a press release.

In the new, state-of-the-art, 88,500-square-foot building in Tampa’s Hidden River Corporate Park, about 250 J&J Global Services employees were on board for the mid-October launch.

However, by 2020, the company expects to employ 540 people at the Tampa site.

Why Tampa? J&J says the city has plenty of “highly educated talent in the fields of Finance, Operations, Information Technology, Procurement and Human Resources,” according to the release.

On October 19, “we celebrate opening this [North American hub] as the latest advancement in the proud history of the world's largest and most broadly-based health care company," said J&J’s Erin Champlin, vice president global services.

Since it was founded in 1888, the company has been headquartered in New Brunswick.  But J&J and its subsidiaries have offices all over the world.

"This new center expands our strong business presence within the state of Florida and we are excited to be a more active member of this vibrant Tampa community."

And J&J will reportedly receive as much as $7 million in state and local incentives to grow business operations in Florida, in exchange for bringing jobs which will pay at least $75,000 per year on average.

Moreover, J&J promised to invest $23.5 million to actively advance its business in the region.

According to its website, since opening the center, J&J has been seeking applicants qualified in information technology, analytics, ecommerce, human resources, and employee relations, among several other positions. 

“Tampa has a great pipeline of entry level talent," said Dominic Caruso, J&J's chief financial officer, at a ribbon-cutting for the new center. And, we hope to "attract that entry level talent."

Caruso added that last year, about 25% of the company's new employees were under the age of 35. 

He also noted the availability of employees who are able to speak two or more languages, and "managerial level talent" throughout the community, which would naturally help J&J as a global leader.
