NEW BRUNSWICK, NJ--Mickey Vanderpool, age 61, severely beat a Newark woman "sometime in June 2016," according to an official statement from the Middlesex County Prosecutor's Office (MCPO).

On June 26, Vanderpool was sentenced to serve at least 85% of his eight-year prison term before being eligible for parole, three months after pleading guilty to 2nd-degree assault charges on March 23.

Middlesex County Prosecutor Andrew C. Carey announced the sentence in a press release issued by the MCPO.

This plea agreement was reached by Middlesex County Assistant Prosecutor Alyssa Gambarella, and the sentence was handed down by Superior Court Judge Alberto Rivas.

Vanderpool, of Elizabeth, met the woman in nearby Newark, and drove her to the business park Raritan Center in Edison, where he repeatedly struck her about the head with the pipe and left her for dead in the days preceding June 21, 2016.

The woman wandered around the industrial complex for an unknown amount of time, possibly a day or more, before she was found by a utility worker and asked for help.

Police were called to the scene, and the event was investigated by Detective Joseph Kenney of the Edison Police Department, MCPO Sgt. Wayne Canastra, and MCPO Detective George Stilwell.

The woman was taken to JFK Medical Center in Edison, where she was treated and released.

Vanderpool was incarcerated at South Woods State Prison in Bridgeton on June 26, and will not be eligible for parole until October 9, 2023.
