NEW BRUNSWICK, NJ—On Saturday, February 25, community members are invited to attend the New Brunswick Community Food Alliance’s annual community Food Forum.

This year’s annual event will run from 10:00 am to 1:00 pm and will be held at the Lord Stirling Community School located at 101 Redmond Street.

Community members who attend the event will learn how to access free food resources, grow their own food, and eat better on a budget.

There will also be raffle prizes, free food samples, children’s games and free health screenings, according to a press release from the Middlesex County Improvement Authority (MCIA).

“Whether you are interested in accessing a food pantry, looking into gardening, want to learn how to eat healthy on a budget or you need an entertaining day out with the kids, there’s something for everyone,” said Freeholder Deputy Director Charles E. Tomaro.

According to the New Brunswick Community Food Alliance (NBCFA) website, the organization was established on October 7th, 2011.

The mission of NBCFA is “to ensure that all New Brunswick residents have access to nutritious, safe, affordable, and culturally appropriate food at all times.”

The New Brunswick Community Food Alliance has become an important role in the community and, “on November 16th, 2011, the New Brunswick City Council adopted a City Resolution recognizing the NBCFA as New Brunswick’s food policy council.”

The organization currently has seventeen voting members as well as a Membership Committee and Operations Committee.

Representatives from New Brunswick Community Farm Market, the Lower Raritan Watershed Partnership, New Brunswick 4-H and Elijah’s Promise Culinary School will be attending.

The event is being hosted alongside the Middlesex County Food Organization and Outreach Distribution Services (MCFOODS), the county food bank.
